What’s the difference between a massage therapist and chiropractor? What is a massage therapist?

What’s the difference between a massage therapist and chiropractor? A massage therapist is a person certified to work on soft tissues of the body. They use different techniques to help relieve tight muscles in the back and extremities. They will most often use their hands, fingers, elbows, knees, and sometimes feet to workout sore or tight muscles. Depending upon the program a massage therapy license can take several weeks or up to 2 years to complete.

What is a chiropractor?

A chiropractor is a physician who specializes in conditions of the spine and body. They help treat many conditions but specialize in helping people with pinched nerves. If a bone in your back isn’t moving properly, they are trained to find it and put it back into its proper place. A doctorate in chiropractic typically takes between 7-8 years to complete. There are also extensive tests that need to be completed after they are done with school to obtain their license to practice.

Massage therapy vs Chiropractor

A chiropractor vs massage therapist: Massage therapists helps relieve muscle stiffness and tension, but are not permitted to diagnose or prescribe medication to patients. A chiropractor can diagnose patients and help treat certain conditions of the spine and body, but are not permitted to prescribe medications either. Both a chiropractor and a massage therapist can refer you to other physicians if they feel that they won’t be able to help you.

Which one should I see first?

Massage therapists are wonderful for you if your muscles are feeling tight or if you are feeling stressed out. If your back is in a lot of pain or you have things like numbness and tingling in your hands or feet, then a chiropractor should be your first option. Both are great at assessing where your body needs help and what to do.
