Chiropractors can diagnose and treat many different spinal disorders. Chiropractors will do a physical exam as part of his or her diagnoses. X-rays or CT scans may be ordered to confirm the diagnoses. Chiropractors are able to treat back sprains or strains. Sprains occur when the ligament is overstretched. Strains affect the muscle or tendon by lifting too much weight for example. Chiropractors are also able to treat low back pain, sciatic, and herniated discs. A doctor of chiropractic can help reduce inflammation and improve function in the joint for those with degenerative disc disorder.

Employment for chiropractors is expected to increase twenty percent between 2008 and 2018. This growth is due to the high demand for alternative treatment. Chiropractors emphasize the importance of healthy lifestyles and non-surgical treatment. This allows them to help heal back pain without the use of pain medicine.
