Numbness and tingling is a loss of sensation in a part of the body. Numbness typically happens in the hands or feet. It is often accompanied by tingling. This can feel like a pins and needles sensation. Numbness can occur on a single side of the body. It can also occur on both sides of the body.
What Causes Numbness?

Numbness is caused by irritation or damage to a particular nerve. The affected nerves are peripheral nerves. These are the nerves that connect the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body. Many times it is easy to figure out what has caused the problem.

The most common cause of numbness and tingling occurs when a limb “falls asleep”. This can happen from being held in an unusual position for too long. This can occur due to abnormal pressure on a nerve. It can be quickly resolved by moving the affected limb back to a normal position. This is benign. There is no reason to see a doctor if it happens.

Vitamin deficiencies such as Vitamins E, B1, B6, B12, and niacin are essential for healthy nerve function.
